In his new album called Kamikaze Eminem made a song called Lucky You, featuring Joyner Lucas, where he says: “They're askin' me what the f*** happened to hip-hop I said, I don't have any answers". Here, Eminem is talking about how rap has gotten worse compared to his generation’s rap because of the new mumble rappers. Nonetheless, the fact that rap is the most famous music genre still remains.

Rap came to existence by the late 1970s. Coke La Rock, the first rapper, was born on April 25, 1955 and is still alive as of January 2019. In 1973, Coke La Rock teamed up with Clive Campbell, whose stage name was DJ Kool Herc. They made many hits together. Rap’s birthplace is New York, 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx, which is where Coke La Rock is from, while DJ Kool Herc is from Kingston, Jamaica. Even though DJ Kool Herc wasn’t born in the Bronx, he lived there most of his life.

Rap has been around for about 50 years now. In those 50 years, may people have became rappers, but not all of them went far. However, some became very famous and became millionaires or even multi millionaires. A great example is Gazzy Garcia, with the stage name of Lil Pump. Before he became famous, Lil Pump claimed to be very poor. After he dropped his hit song, Gucci Gang, on October 23rd 2017, Lil Pump made a lot of money and he even became a multi millionaire with a net worth of about $10 million. Even though Lil Pump had a great success, he still isn’t one of the greatest rappers.

The top 10 greatest rappers to have ever lived, not listed in order, are Eminem, Tupac, The Notorious B.I.G, Nas, Lil Wayne, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Jay-Z and 50 Cent. They are considered as the greatest rappers of all time for a variety of reasons. One of the reasons is their lyrics.

These rappers are very lyrical, which means their lyrics have a deep meaning which many people won’t understand. For example in his song 6 foot 7 foot, Lil Wayne says his famous line “Paper chasing, tell that paper, ‘Look, I'm right behind ya’, b****, real Gs move in silence like lasagna”. At first glance not many people would understand this. In the word lasagna, the G is silent. Lil Wayne is saying that real gangster move in silence, therefore keeping their hustle low.

These rappers also have meaningful messages in their songs. For example, Tupac’s song Dear Mama is a song that Tupac wrote about his mom. In the song, Tupac talks about how his mom’s lfes was difficult and now that he is an adult, he realizes the struggle that his mom had. Tupac also talks about how his mom managed to raise him without his fathers help, whom Tupac didn’t meet until he was shot and sent to the hospital.

If you have amazing lyrics with deep meanings and you give meaningful messages but cannot rap very good, it is unlikely that you will become one of the greatest. All of the people listed above are very good at rapping, and have some complicated rhyme schemes that not everyone can do.

Some people believe that there is racism in rap, some do not. There has been a lot of racist songs made throughout rap’s history but the one that a lot of people have been talking about recently has been made by Nick Conrad. Nick Conrad is a French rapper who was born on 29th of November, 1984, making him 34 years old. On 2018, he released a song called PLB, which is an acronym for “hang the whites”. In the song, Nick raps about killing every single white person and hanging all the white babies. The artist has received criticism from across France’s political spectrum. Nick Conrad could be charged a fine of $51,323 and up to 5 years of jail time, however,  prosecutors have requested a suspended fine of $5,703, saying he has already to a certain extent paid the consequences. This is still an ongoing case.

Back in May 2018, Kendrick Lamar was on stage with a fan. He invited the teen white girl to sing his song M.A.A.D City with him, in which, Kendrick Lamar repeatedly says the N-word. The girl, who said that she was called Delaney, ends up saying the N-word. This resulted into Kendrick Lamar getting angry and stopping the show. Kendrick tells the girl that she had to bleep only one word and she didn’t do it. The way Kendrick says this, sounds like he is telling Delaney that she should’ve known better, to which, she ends up apologizing immediately. Kendrick asks his fans if he should let the girl on stage or not. All of the fans start booing.

Because of this, Kendrick Lamar thinks that every rapper should stop using the N-word in their songs. Kendrick thinks this way because white teenagers who hear their favorite rapper say the N-word, might start saying it as well, which would result into them being called racist. They could also get into trouble such as saying the N-word around black people, not realizing that it is offensive.

Even though rap is amazing, there are still some dark sides to rap, such as rappers promoting drugs or some even rapping about murder. In my opinion, rap is one of the greatest things to have happened. However, rap has changed so much, many people think it has become worse, due to all the mumble rappers. Anyway, I don’t think that rap has become worse, I belive rap is just chaning since it can’t stay the same forever. Both new and old rap have a time and a place.
