Rogue one aims to fit the gap between episodes III and IV in the Star Wars universe and answer questions we've had for years. The movie has both the things we wanted in a Star Wars movie. We get an interesting universe and a great story that complements the other movies. Felicity Jones stars as Jyn Erso, the daughter of Galen Erso, a man kidnapped by the empire to help build the deathstar. She becomes a part of the rebels with friends she meets such as the serious rogue Cassian, his sarcastic and demotivating robot sidekick, K-2SO.

The acting of all the cast members is particularly great. I especially enjoyed Diego Luna as Cassian. He didn't have a moment in the movie that I didn't believe. All of his lines were on point and delivered well. A couple of Felicity Jones's lines came off a little forced or corny, but she still did a fantastic job in the lead role. Ben Mendelsohn plays the villain Krennic expertly and you can go from feeling bad for him to hating him in seconds. The range of emotions he plays is superb.

The pacing of the movie gets weird a few times throughout the film. The beginning of the movie is lots of cuts between different planets that can seem overwhelming at first, but it gets better. About halfway through the movie it has a few scenes that feel almost out of place as they attempt to use corny lines for a deeper effect. It feels out of place and really doesn't seem like something the characters would do. Darth Vader also has a line I consider cheesy and out of place.

The final act of this movie is really what shines however. The climax and epic battle is well thought out and believable. All the characters working together made a great ending. The CGI is phenomenal. Seeing the rebels fighting the empire in a modern movie is just amazing and will really make you feel nostalgia for the original trilogy. Nothing in the movie looks bad or fake. An epic final scene with Darth Vader seals the movie nicely.

Overall the new Star Wars movie is fantastic. It really feels like Star Wars with all of the planets you see. You get immersed in the universe. The story fits nicely into the series and wraps up plot holes from the original trilogy. The few pacing issues and out of place lines are quickly forgotten as the final act plays out. I recommend you check the movie out immediately even if you don't have an interest in Star Wars.
