John Lee Hancock’s award winning movie “The Blind Side” was released in 2009. “The Blind Side” is a heartwarming movie about a homeless teenage boy that was offered a second chance at life. Seventeen year old Michael Oher was walking alone in the rain when Leigh Anne Touhy comes by and offers him to stay at her house for the night. Michael went to her house that night and ended up staying there for about a week. Soon after the Touhys’ got to know Michael a little better than before, they decided to take a big risk and adopt Michael Oher into their family. Thanks to Leigh Anne, Michael finally has a home to live in, a good education, and even a chance to attend sports.

One dull, rainy day, Michael Oher was looking for a warm place to stay for the night. He walked halfway to the high school in Memphis, Tennessee, when Leigh Anne Touhy drove by with her family. She was about halfway down the road when she decided to turn around and ask where he was headed. He lied to her and said he was going home. She felt as if he was lying so she decided to ask again. After he told her where he was actually going, Michael was offered a cozy place to sleep at Leigh Anne’s house. The next day Leigh Anne took him to the store and bought him a few shirts and pants to wear. As the days went on, Michael began to feel like part of the family. Then suddenly, Leigh Anne made the risk to legally adopt Michael into their family.

When Michael got adopted into the Touhy family, Leigh Anne decided to start taking him to school so that he can learn and hopefully make some friends. The first day of school was harsh and he didn’t make any new friends. Although he made a few friends after a couple of days. Then Leigh Anne decided she needed to hire a tutor for Michael so he can relearn the basics such as reading and writing. Once he improved on his reading and writing skills, he learned more important subjects in school like math and science. Soon Michael caught up with some things that his other classmates were learning. After Michael’s tutor was hired, he decided it was time for him to start participating in a sport.

Michael decided football was the sport he wanted to learn and participate in. SJ, Leigh Anne’s youngest child, helped Michael train and get into shape in order for him to play football. SJ also helped teach Michael the rules of the game. Then thanks to SJ’s help, Michael became right tackle on the football team once he was eligible to play. He soon learned to protect and defend his teammates as if they were his family. SPOILER ALERT: Near the end of the football season, Michael became the best player on the team and he began to receive letters from all kinds of football colleges saying they want him to go to their college.

Michael’s life and future was restored because of a once in a lifetime miracle. That miracle only happened because of a wonderful christian woman and her family. Thanks to her, Michael was offered a second chance to get his life back together. The Touhy family helped him get a good education, play a sport, and they even gave him a caring, loving family that permanently put a roof over his head. I would strongly recommend that you see John Lee Hancock's award winning movie, ”The Blind Side”.
