The movie Field of Dreams, directed by Phil Alden Robinson isvery moving. Unlike most sports movies, this one focuses less on playing the sport, and rather on the meaning of it. Lead actor, Kevin Costner, could not have played his part any better.
The movie started off with Ray talking about the strange relationship with his father. Ray’s father was a professional baseball player in the 1930s, who didn’t get to spend much time with his son, Ray. When he finally stops playing baseball and settles down, he starts playing ball with his son. John, his father, always told Ray that his favorite player and idol was Shoeless Joe Jackson. Ray could not stand looking up to a man whose idol was a criminal. He started having doubts about his father. By the time Ray turned 14, he stopped playing catch with his father. When he turned 18, he left home, went to college, and eventually buys a farm in Iowa with his wife and daughter.
The movie starts off with an outstanding opening shot of a beautiful, luscious cornfield, while the farmer Ray Kinsella starts hearing voices. He heard a voice that says, “If you build it, he will come.” Ray later finds out he has to build a baseball field to satisfy his own doubts. Ray kept hearing voices afterwards, even though he thought he was done. Ray now has to go through a few adventures to find the answers to his questions.

The best actor in the whole movie was obviously Kevin Costner. He played his part as best as anyone could. The other main character, Terrence Mann, played by James Earl Jones, was also excellent. He played the role of a fictional writer. On the other hand, Rays’ wife, played by Amy Madigan, seemed very fake. The way she talked, the way she acted, and she just wasn’t good. She was not in character at all, and it sounded like she was reading her lines off of paper.

The directing in this movie was very good. The cinematography in the opening scene looked phenomenal. Throughout the movie, the cinematography could have been better. There were no amazing scenes like the one in the beginning except for the one at the end. It was breathtaking. Overall, this movie is a must see for everyone.
