Are you struggling with your identity and not knowing what to do next in life? If so I have the perfect coming-of-age film for you! From the director of Barbie and Little Women Gerta Gerwig´s Ladybird is perfect for you. This film is set in the years 2002 to 2003 in Sacramento California it tells the story of a rebellious teenage girl. The main character is going threw a stage of life in which she is trying new things like making new friends and joining the theater club and wants to move away the second she can from her boring old hometown.

This film follows the life of a teenage girl in her senior year of high school named Christine who is trying her hardest to just leave her hometown Sacramento. She plans to apply for out-of-state tuition but with her parent's income it would be hard to pay for it so she decides to join the theater club to build up her college resume during her time there she meets a boy and ends up dating him but after some time they end up breaking up. During her last year of high school, she decides that she needs changes in her life so she goes out of her way to make new friends during all of this she meets someone new who ends up being her first time.

During all of this, her relationship with her mom is getting worse because she believes that her mom doesn't believe in her. The mom on the other hand just doesn't want her to fail in life but doesn't know how to show her emotions to Christine. So during the time that Christine is about to leave for college, they aren't on speaking terms, and because of this, her mom doesn't get the chance to say goodbye. During the time that Christine is at college, she finally understands her mom in a way.

This movie is great for those who are struggling with their identity or have a hard relationship with their moms and even for moms who have a hard time understanding their kids. As someone who struggles with their identity, and with my relationship with my mom, and I'm also from Sacramento this film holds a special place in my heart, and I know you might feel the same about this film as I do even if you aren't from Sacramento.
