A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away is where George Lucas’ Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi takes place. Consisting of the light side and dark side, the Rebels and the Empire, it is common for the rivalry to escalate like it does in this movie. The Empire’s plans to build a Death Star II are discovered. This space station will wreak havoc on the galaxy and destroy everyone in the Resistance but there are a few brave souls who are willing to step up and save it, including Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Han Solo. This action packed movie is an absolute must-see that has viewers intrigued with the winding plot and constant suspense.

Directed by Richard Marquand and released by Lucasfilm Ltd in 1983, Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi has an iconic cast of well known actors such as Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher whose characters are Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia. The actor’s popularity and fanbase increased exponentially following the release of this science fiction series. The original Death Star from  Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope was destroyed by the Rebels, which angered the Empire. Now, Death Star II is under construction above the planet of Endor, which is also conveniently where the controls to the station are hidden. Han Solo and his crew make their way to Endor in order to stop the Empire’s plans from following through. Their chance of success is slim but it doesn’t deter them from trying their best since the galaxy is in their hands.

Han Solo, captain of Millennial Falcon and assisted by Chewbacca, a wookiee, is left in charge of leading his small group of rebels to possible success. Luke Skywalker would normally lead the group but he senses Darth Vader’s presence, who was previously revealed to actually be his father. Skywalker left abruptly in hopes that he could convert his father to the light side and that Vader still had good in him. So while Han Solo’s group befriends the Ewoks of Endor, after quite a bit of struggle that was only resolved with C-3PO being viewed as a God by them, Skywalker is battling Darth Vader, possibly to death.

With Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi being the sixth installment of the series written by George Lucas, the original music composed by John Williams, which dates back to 1977, has become such a classic that it is easily recognized in all the movies up to today. The soundtrack is perfect in this movie because it fits the mood by consisting of deep notes that create tension and the quicker paced runs that build suspense with crescendos. This leaves viewers sitting on the edge of their seats. A movie without good music is bland and can often reduce how tense, happy, or sorrow a scene should feel. In Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, the music really emphasizes the moods in scenes which is very important in capturing the audience's emotions and twisting them in ways that make the movie feel real.

Overall, Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, is an excellent movie for movie-seekers like myself because it is great for people of all ages but not seen as childish. Some great components of the movie are the mood shifters between fight scenes and comedic relief with characters such as C-3PO, who is funnily seen as a God by the Ewoks on Endor. These shifts make the plot unpredictable which is a great factor to have in a movie because it is less likely to get boring no matter how many times it is watched. Another part of the movie I love is how it is given the genre of science fiction. Seeing the laws of physics as we know it being defied so casually is amazing to see. Such as the force being used to bring things from across the room or lightsabers being lit up effortlessly and while they appear so beautiful and alluring can actually cause horrible injuries or even death with the flick of a wrist. Defying laws like this opens up a ton of doors for imagination to run wild and free in viewer’s minds. If anyone is out there looking for the perfect science fiction movie with hints of comedy, adventure, and romance woven in there, then Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi is just what to watch.
