My eyes are wet as I stare at the screen, but a smile stretches from ear to ear. I just sit for a moment while the credits appear. I watch as the names of the characters fill the television. That was probably my 8th time watching The Father of the Bride, the movie, but it has the same effect every time. it never bores me or fails to put a smile on my face.

The movie, The Father of the Bride II, is about a daughter and her husband becoming pregnant with their first baby. Her dad, main character George Banks (Steve Martin) isn’t ready for his daughter to become a mother—she is still a child in his eyes. During the movie, while the mother and father are preparing for their role as grandparents, they also receive a surprise of their own.

The movie is  hilarious and still relays an overall message of the importance of family. The characters experience the ups and downs of this time together. It shows that in stressful times, parents are scared too. Fathers just want the best for their little girl and this movie truly delivers this message. The movie inspires children like me to keep a bond with their parents.

The humor in The Father of the Bride is frequently demonstrated whether it is through speech, actions, or both. One example of this is when the pregnant daughter has two false alarm labors. Her father spends both nights awake at the hospital before going to work the next morning. He hasn’t slept in two days. The events leading up to his daughter going into labor are hilarious because of her father, George, and his behavior.

This movie was casted wonderfully as well. The chemistry between actors leads to the great interaction between characters. For example, Steve Martin and Martin Short, both significant characters, create amazing movies and shows when on set together. This is ironic because throughout the movie, their relationship builds through bonding experiences, but in the beginning, the characters were not huge fans of one another. Their natural sense of interaction adds room for humor. For example, the love/hate relationship between George and Frank that eventually creates a bond is an amazing part of this movie.

Lastly, the soundtrack in this movie adds to the value of this movie. The uplifting, positive songs create a lasting happy effect on viewers.

This movie lifts a person up when they are down and helps to restore parental relationships with their children. It simply makes you laugh, not just a chuckle, but a whole hearted laugh. I never expected this kind of quality before watching it. It’s an incredible movie.
