Many of you have probably already heard about the major craze that took place earlier this year involving the new films Barbie and Oppenheimer. The “Barbenheimer” craze swept the nation and eventually, tempted me to go and see one of these films. I chose to watch “Oppenheimer”. As a fan of World War II movies and books, I decided that my best choice would be to watch the planning behind the finisher of this war.

Robert J. Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy, is credited as the creator of the first atomic bomb in the world. The bombs that he created were the ones used by the United States In World War 2. In the movie, it shows the struggles that Oppenheimer used to go through as a kid and how intelligent he was even at a young age. Eventually, as he ages Oppenheimer becomes a college professor and starts teaching kids about science in his own particular way. It is here that he meets the General, played by Matt Damon, who recruits him onto the top-secret Manhattan Project.

Although on the longer side at around 3 hours long, the movie Oppenheimer keeps you locked in at almost all times throughout the movie. Some other movies such as Avengers: End Game have an entire hour of almost no action at the start of the movie leading to lengths of around 3 hours. Oppenheimer does not have this at all. There is action spread out through the entire movie which personally kept my attention throughout.

The cast of this movie is absolutely fantastic. The main characters are Oppenheimer, Jean Tatlock (Florence Pugh), Lewis Strauss (Robert Downey Jr.), and the General. In my opinion, it doesn’t really get much better than these people in a cast, especially in a movie directed by Christopher Nolan. Christopher Nolan is one of the most awarded directors in Hollywood with movies such as the Batman series under his belt. Therefore, if he is the director, you know the movie is going to be fantastic.

Another huge part of this movie is the special effects that were used, and that’s because there were little to none. All of the effects in the movie were made by the film crew and there were few special effects in the entire movie. This, however, does not mean that the effects in the movie did not lead up to par. On the other hand, it was the exact opposite. The effects used look unreal and many show bright displays of light beautifully.

With all the social media attention surrounding this film, it had great expectations to live up to. But to me, I think that this film exceeded those expectations greatly. I would definitely recommend this film to anyone interested in learning more about the atomic bomb as well as anybody who is a fan of Christopher Nolan because this is one of his greatest works.
