Captain Marvel is a superhero movie revolving around the comic book character Captain Marvel and is the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to have a woman as the lead character. Captain Marvel is an extraterrestrial who currently resides in the capital of an alien civilization known as the Kree. She is a Kree warrior and is currently trying to help her people in their war against the Skrulls, who are another alien race, except they are capable of shape-shifting into anybody that they want to, making them capable of infiltrating other civilizations and planets and then eventually taking over. After a slew of events, including a battle between the Kree and the Skrulls, Captain Marvel, who isn't yet known by that name, instead an alien name that she received from the Kree, finds herself crashing on Earth during the year 1995. She feels that she has to beat the Skrulls to find a secret power source that the Kree believe could be used by the Skrulls to advance their fighting capabilities and allow them to take over more areas. While on Earth, Captain Marvel soon discovers that she used to have a life here and was known as Carol Danvers. She learns that she used to serve in the Air Force as a pilot, and as she begins to work with Nick Fury, because they both agree that it is mutually beneficial, since Nick wants to get rid of the aliens that have now traveled to his planet and Carol wants to also stop these aliens, Carol soon relearns her past as she begins to gain superpowers, understand herself better, learn about a life that she never knew she had, and attempt to end the war with the Skrulls.
Captain Marvel manages to be a fantastic movie that is one of the top movies in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. There's adventure, visuals, a character that is easy to root for, an awesome concept fueling it, action-packed moments, compelling villains, and supporting characters that help to make the movie shine even more so. Not only all of that, but the plot of the movie is quite sophisticated as well, more so than some of the other movies in the franchise. The beginning of the movie brilliantly introduces audiences to the alien civilizations smoothly, which is crucial to audiences' understanding of the film, especially considering that they are a giant part of the movie. The middle of the movie marvelously progresses things along and is able to jam-pack the movie with character development that aids in making the movie substantially more interesting. The enticing ending of the movie proves to be everything and then some that viewers could have possibly hoped for and is able to connect with other movies in the franchise flawlessly. Not only all of that, but the exhilarating conclusion manages to showcase Captain Marvel in all of her fury and power, showing that she really might be the most powerful character in the universe, making her inevitable fight against Thanos in future movies all the more intriguing.

Captain Marvel is the first movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to come out since Avengers: Infinity War, meaning this movie had a lot to live up to. Due to the shocking events that occurred in that movie, many were hoping and expecting this one to be able to provide some answers, which the movie is capable of doing. Furthermore, due to the massive success that the third Avengers movie was, Captain Marvel had a lot to live up to. Secondly, as the first female-led movie in the franchise, expectations were high to ensure that the series didn't pass by on all of the hype surrounding this movie. Luckily, the movie is able to live up to expectations and proves to be one of the best movies in the entire series, which is quite the competition.

Captain Marvel has some truly outstanding visuals that aid in making all of the movie's science fiction qualities come to life even more. There's scenes that involve outer space, there's aliens that are capable of transforming into just about anyone and everyone that they can lay their eyes on, and the fact that Captain Marvel has some incredibly cool superpowers that involve energy and bright colors. The vivid visual effects of the movie are a major reason why all of the different aliens in the movie are able to look extremely realistic and seem like they could exist in real life. The spectacular special effects in the movie help to bring Captain Marvel's powers to life and help to really demonstrate how powerful of a character she truly is. The visuals also help in conjuring many of the science fiction-like qualities of the movies, including the sophistication behind many of the alien civilizations and some of the futuristic technology that is showcased.

As the first Marvel movie that has a woman as the main character, Captain Marvel needed its star to shine. And she does. Captain Marvel is able to become a compelling character that is easy to root for and likable. Unlike some of the other superheroes in the franchise, like Iron Man and Doctor Strange, Carol Danvers is a genuinely kind individual, who has to deal with massive issues that common people deal with all of the time, like someone not knowing who he or she really is. Carol is relatable and is able to become a fan-favorite with a wide variety of audiences. Because Carol is such a complex character, she helps to make the movie that much more engaging.

Captain Marvel showcases a different side of the universe than some of the others in the franchise, making this movie feel that much more unique. Aside from a few exceptions, this movie is one of the first to really delve deep into all of the other civilizations existing in the same universe as humans. Even though this helps in elucidating common themes, like why being human is normal and should be expected, it also helps in demonstrating the true purpose of superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and why they are essential, which is anything but traditional.

Captain Marvel also has more of Nick Fury in the movie, which is absolutely a positive thing. Nick Fury is one of the more interesting characters in the franchise, and although he has never had his own movie, he always manages to make the movies that he is in that much better. Also, due to the ending of Avengers: Infinity War, Nick Fury's relationship with Captain Marvel is integral to the future of the franchise.

Captain Marvel is capable of balancing the tone of the movie, which has become a staple of Marvel movies. Even though the threat of war is evident throughout, and some truly dark events occur, the movie still manages to keep the tone light. There are jokes dispersed throughout the dialogue, and this additional humor makes the movie so much more entertaining. Nick Fury in particular is quite sarcastic and never fails to deliver laughs. Captain Marvel is also quite witty, which is nice to see, seeing as she is an alien warrior.

Because Captain Marvel is able to accomplish so much, there are so many different scenes that come in mind when thinking of its best moments. However, the common theme is that the majority of the best scenes involve Captain Marvel transforming into her best self and demonstrating how might she can truly be. There's one scene that involves Captain Marvel taking down ballistic missiles all by herself and singlehandedly destroying an entire army's worth of soldiers, helping to solidify the concept of how strong women can really be. Because of this, the movie is able to be quite empowering for women all across the world and for people of all ages.
Captain Marvel does a sensational job of balancing the amount of time spent in outer space and back on Earth, which is key to the outcome of the movie. There isn't too much time spent on Earth, but at the same time, not too much time is spent on alien planets, which helps to make the movie feel grounded and not too out-of-worldly.

One of the main reasons for Captain Marvel's success is a superior cast that is nothing short of amazing. Brie Larson is the face of the movie and now the character Captain Marvel and rightfully so. She is able to transform into Carol Danvers beautifully as she depicts the character fabulously. Her performance helps audiences to feel an entire spectrum of emotions, and she is really able to completely turn into the character flawlessly. Samuel L. Jackson does a magnificent job of portraying Nick Fury once again, and his performance is about as perfect as it gets with his character being critical to the movie, seeing as he combines with Captain Marvel to create a duo that is sure to please. Jackson's role compliments Larson's role superbly, and they are able to combine together to make an acting duo that is arguably one of the best in the entire franchise, which is saying something since it spans more than twenty movies.

Captain Marvel is a movie that will absolutely surpass any and all expectations and should be seen by just about anyone and everyone. There's action-packed battles that involve aliens and advanced technology, the origin story of Captain Marvel, numerous instances that showcase how awesome Captain Marvel truly is, science fiction, fantasy, references to other superhero movies that help to make the franchise's history feel that much more grand, which is saying something considering that it is already considered one of the biggest movie histories to ever exist, unreal visuals that make aliens come to life, a charismatic lead, an astonishingly good cast, and all of that combines together to make a film that showcases what a superhero movie should be like. Enough said.
