The Goonies is a fantastic classic that has managed to become one of the most well-known movies of all time. The movie revolves around a diverse group of friends living along the west coast in Oregon. Because all of their homes are going to be destroyed by a property developing company that wants to create a country club, the friends feel like they should have one last adventure together before they are forced to leave one another. Because of this, the group of friends end up going into the attic of Mikey's house, looking for things to do. However, they have no idea what exactly their getting themselves into when they discover a treasure map that looks like it could just be based off of a myth or legend. Even though the majority of the members are skeptical at first, Mikey is able to convince them to go along with it, and they might be able to save all of their homes if they can find treasure. The group, which is made up of a clever kid named Mouth, Chunk, who is best known for his appetite, Mikey, who is like the leader, Brand, who is the older brother of Mikey, and Data, who is known for all of his crazy gadgets, as well as two other high school girls who join them, finds themselves having one of the craziest adventures of all times, as they discover that the treasure map is very real and it is heavily guarded and complicated to get to, leading to them following various clues in an attempt to beat a group of real criminals to the treasure.
The Goonies proves to be a fun adventure that is definitely well worth the hype. The actual story of the movie is an exhilarating one, and this can all be thanks to the thought through plot of the movie. The beginning of the film is able to brilliantly set the stage for the rest to follow and introduces audiences to the world that the Goonies live in. The middle of the movie does a marvelous job of progressing the movie along and presenting new, exciting obstacles and challenges to the characters. The enticing ending of the movie proves to be action-packed and ends things in a very Spielberg-manner, but this might be a little too family friendly for some. However, the movie does do a great job of connecting every single thing that occurs to one another to create a complicated puzzle that is able to succeed on many different layers.
The Goonies manages to be a heart-warming movie that is great for people of all ages. Because the movie seems to be catered for those of younger ages, it can actually succeed with being a movie that is filled with child-like wonder and imagination, which can be considered a heavy influence for how the movie works and functions. Even though the concept of having pirates and treasure hunts is generally associated with much younger audiences, the fact that there are so many challenges and the threat of death help to ensure that this movie actually becomes much more complex than kids wanting gold. However, the movie never becomes too dark or grim, which is a plus.

The Goonies greatly benefits from having a wide variety of different main characters that all bring something new and interesting to the table. Mikey is the somewhat shy, quiet leader, Brand is the cool, strong guy, Mouth is the witty, brave one who always says what he wants, regardless of the repercussions, Chunk is the scared one who always wants food, and Data is the guy people want if they're in need of an innovative invention. Because all of these characters are almost always on screen at the same time, there's at least one person on screen that viewers should be able to relate to and feel that much more connected with.

Not only is The Goonies beloved by many, but critics also gave the movie high marks. Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie an extremely solid 70%, and IMDb gave the movie an outstanding 7.8/10, which is actually quite the exceptional score, since they are generally known for giving lower marks. An impressive 91% of Google users liked the movie, helping to show that just about anyone and everyone seemed to like the movie.

The Goonies is definitely worth watching, because it is one of the better movies out there, and for those who have not yet seen it, it is time to see one of the most beloved movies of all time.
