The book Divergent written by Veronica Roth is the first in the Divergent series following with Insurgent and Allegiant. It was published by Katherine Tegen Books on April 25 2011 and printed by Harpercollins Children's books, Veronica was awarded as #1 New York Times bestselling Author.
In Divergent war destroyed the world leaving everything devastated, Chicago recovers from the war and splits up into five different factions to order peace: Abnegation the selfless, Erudite the smart, Candor always tell the truth, Amity the kind, and Dauntless the brave. Sixteen year old Beatrice prior "Tris" has to choose her official faction, she left Abnegation for Dauntless. During initiation training, Tris falls in love with her initiation leader Four. They later discover that Erudite is releasing news articles about her old faction putting her Family in danger. Tris does everything to save her old faction from the war on Abnegation.
This book was written in Tris’s point of view, making it a bit girly for a boys to read. Don't worry, that doesn't take away the action, violence, and romance. Tris is afraid of making decisions, but she overcomes her fears. There are several themes to this book but one that was throughout the entire book was identity. She never forgets where she comes from and what she needs to do to save her family.  I really enjoyed reading this book, I personally I’m not a reader so might not encounter the next book. I recommend this series to fans of The Hunger Games, Maze Runner, and Twilight, and to girls around 15-20 years of age. I assure you that it will not waste your time and will enjoy every second of it. I think Veronica Roth wrote this book to let people see that everyone has a role in life and that they are free to choose. She puts Beatrice in a critical moment in the choosing ceremony; she has to decide either in her family or herself. Veronica also showed us to not forget our identity, even when Beatrice left her faction she tattooed herself the sign of Abnegation where she was from and the dauntless sign where she is now. Veronica also made Beatrice to not forget her family, in the story Tris has a tattoo of three Ravens one for each member of her family.
