Co-Indited by Johnny Gagne and Stanley S. Thornton (He Walks with Dragons saga), there was an a kit of familiar elements in The First Dragonslayer. Familiar can be authentically good. A fantasy epic that is great, despite a too-graphic death. But reading it proved to me that there's an abundance of variation still possible within those set parameters, and quite early on this fantasy adventure transmuted from being something I'd ecstatically doze off to after my roast dinner to something I wanted to stay awake for. A lot of that is due to its storytelling device, Harry and Mandy were just the undertone to the main plot. It genuinely made me visit a whole incipient world, sense of adventures, the one-liners, and the world in which it was set.

I'm not one to rehash an entire plot in a review, but I will verbalize if you relished Thornton's books as much as I did, then you're sure to love The First Dragonslayer even more. It was such a treat from start to finish. I highly recommend it as a must-read for anyone who likes an opulent, compelling fantasy tale.

Even if the beginning and end weren't quite so prosperous in terms of pacing for me, I'm glad it hit its stride in the central section, and engendered something magical. It could easily become a very familiar part of Dragon lore. Additionally, dragons. I mean...DRAGONS! Read it people!
