Possessive money. Possessive money.
You bring night to day. You bring day to night.
Only you can make my day all so sunny.
As long as I’m with you, all will be right.
Food. Water. Clothing. Houses. Cars. Class. Life.
Schools. Education. University.
Big, beautiful, shiny gold jewelry for my wife.
Consume and dictate until I can’t see.
In exchange I will get all that I want.
I can assure you, I will not obsess.
I’ll do anything just so I can flaunt.
Just give me all the gifts you possess,
whilst I mourn to myself of sacrifice,
and what I gave for this fake paradise.

The author's comments:

This poem is a Shakespearian sonnet style poem. It tries to get into the perspective of those who have a deep obsession with money. What I want my readers to walk away with after reading my poem is to think about their own obsessions and experiences, and the consequences of having them.
