My thoughts betrayed me; this cannot be real;
You always told me you were here to stay;
Now I’m left with only the color teal,
‘Cause your time was up; God took you away.

If love could have saved you, you’d still be here,
‘Cause you were my Number One, my best friend:
Without you, it’s been one heck of a year;
Why so soon did your life come to an end?

But still I have the memories of you;
We laughed and played, you were so proud of me;
The secrets we shared, the things we would do;
You helped me dream of the things I could be.

Even though I have been dealing with grief,
I’m content to know that you got relief.

The author's comments:
I wrote this piece as a memoir of my best friend, my grandma. Teal is the color of the ovarian cancer awareness ribbon, which my grandma had suffered from. She died at a young age and I wrote this because she was the strongest woman I had ever known.
