Ode to the Moulin Rouge
the Moulin Rouge is a magical place
where unexpected wonders shock and please
dames dance with excitement but also grace
and even around danger they’re at ease
the costumes are lavish, dripping with pearls
even though they fail to cover much up
the dancers are gorgeous feminine girls
save for some men, ponies, snakes, and a pup
permit me to strut through those blessed doors
and find heaven in sinful songs and tricks
there are tourists there on their tourist's tours
but they don’t sap the wonder from its bricks
here is where you find enchantment in France
watching the showgirls go into their dance
