Helen walked down the halls of Troy,
The face that launched a thousand ships.
Juliet wandered Verona with a Montague boy,
Whose heaven was in her lips.

Those damsels had it all: 
Looks, fortune, suitors from all around.
The Gods themselves were tempted to fall,
To join those beauties on the ground.

Yet you are not just a pretty smile,
Who inspires the heroism of men.
You are a Joan of Arc, a woman of many miles,
Who leads the fight, ready to defend.

Men seek beauty, charm, a nice pair of hips,
But it was your strength that launched a thousand ships.

The author's comments:
This is a loosely written sonnet, part of an assigent for my British Literature class. It started off as something of a love poem, but as I wrote the piece, it became more of an ode to the women in my life.
