That First Kiss
There we were dancing alone in the dark;
nothing could tear me away from his side.
That first kiss shared left a lingering mark,
controlling me as the moon does the tide.
But quickly the stars that shimmered that night,
faded; engulfed by the blazing, hot sun.
Tears stung my eyes as they burned from the light,
forced goodbyes over; the end had begun.
You weren’t there to catch me as I broke down.
The floor caught my fall as the tears poured out.
You left me there in that gray, coastal town.
In silence, your promise, I came to doubt.
That first kiss shared left a lingering mark,
that haunts me forever, here in the dark.
