Taking Flight
I carefully close the door behind me,
And carry my suitcases down the stairs,
Leaving all behind, like a cup of tea
that has become cold. I am now not theirs.
I see the sadness, tears and red eyes,
And like a nestling ready for first flight,
I take off, into bright and open skies.
All ahead is unseen, some out of sight.
I am a blank slate, like crisp linen sheets
Fresh out of the dryer. I say goodbye.
Here’s to the good times, as well as defeats,
It all goes by in the blink of an eye.
Ready as I am, it has been splendid,
Unbelievable how fast it ended.
