affectionate apostasy
if tomorrow the world was going to end
and this earth was devoured by fire
the laws of the world beginning to bend
the honest saints nothing but cruel liars
if hundreds of people cried at the gate
begging their gods to please, please let them in
if eldritch creatures born out of their hate
strike them down and punish them for their sin
we’d be safe in the garden of eden
where i’d find you a solitary rose
you’d laugh without knowing the true meaning
and whisper, ‘i’m glad this is what we chose’
people may pray to lonely gods, it’s true,
but my religion will always be you.
