"I really hope they held you down I really hope it was no lying, Cause my heart breaks it feels like the world's gone."

Euphoric delight accompanied by a woeful cry,

Everlasting promises shattered at the hour of dawn,

Obliterated utterly within blink of an eye,

Unforeseen by her overjoyed mind, and then, he was gone.

Primeval forest embellished with glimmering sunlight,

Overwhelming disbelief and wretchedness all along,

Sabotaged mercilessly to escape undesired plight,

Unforeseen by his tormented soul, and then, she was gone.

At the melancholy hour of dusk were the lovers found,

Bewilderment filled the horrified faces of the crowd,

Instantaneously the distressful news dispersed around,

Tragedy madly concealed their diminishing faithful vows.

So lifelessly the corpses of the lovers lain upon,

Unforeseen by their bittered households, and then, they were gone.

The author's comments:

This poem is written to resemble the pre-seventeenth text Romeo and Juliet play. The poem is written is  sonnet form, 14 lines and rhyme scheme. It is meant to establish and protray their relationship in an imginary setting instead of the pre-historical setting in the actual play, however the feelings and actions of Romeo, Juliet, and their families largely resemble the original text. For instance, Romeo dies first in the original play and upon hearing this news, Juliet also suicides, which is reflected in the poem as well.
