Favorite Quote:
“The caterpillar is a prisoner to the streets that conceived it
Its only job is to eat or consume everything around it
In order to protect itself from this mad city"

-Kendrick Lamar, from "Mortal Man" in album To Pimp a Butterfly

When your body is weak and in mayhem,

It tries to maintain homeostasis.

When you are fevered and have too much phlegm,

Cells try to work on an ordered basis.

Peace to our body and peace to our flesh.

Rid of disorder, heart keeps in paces,

Homeostasis does this until death.

Why can’t the world keep homeostasis?

When the world is in chaos and turmoil,

We condemn the innocent and blameless.

We are irresponsible to our soil.

Collectively, we are disturbed, shameless.

Why do we have physical amity,

But we are a mental calamity?

The author's comments:

This is a piece I wrote because it always has been so strange to me that at a specific level, we are only cells, organs, and chemical reactions, but at a broader level, we are so complicated and conflicted. The world has so many issues, but our bodies still maintain personal homeostasis, but I wanted to reflect on the world as a whole maintaining homeostasis.

**note: my computer will not display any of the pictures, so I just searched up "cell" and selected a random one, so my apologies if it does not go with the poem since I cannot view it at all

Nice poem! I especially like its structure and word choice. Never thought about that before, interesting
