Identity will never change
Verse 1:
Nothing can break the pain
For being beat up in the rain
No one even knows your name
You were born to be a star
They beat you down
All your guts spilled out
All we do is pray
For this way of living to change
Bridge 1:
They treat you like everyone else
When they beat you
and your crying for help
When does this end
Chorus 1:
They never really cared if your fighting for your rights
They still beat you down
and spit over your life
We put our fists up and yell at the sky
Who are you to tell me to go
My identity is kept from everyone else
You treat me the same
I'm my own person today
My identity will never change
So why punish me in cruel ways
Verse 2:
Your treat me like a bunch of germs
Don't wanna be touched
We can't be heard
Violence can't stop me now
Speeches will touch your heart
I know who i am
Your killing me that's part of your plan
Don't need to break my dreams
I will see you when i live the freedom
Bridge 2:
Yeah i may be different from you
So i got proof to tell you so
I hate the way you pull me down
Chorus 2:
They never really cared if your fighting for your rights
They still beat you down
and spit all over your life
We throw our fists up and yell at the sky
Who are you to tell me to go
My identity is kept from everybody else
You treat me the same
We're all different shapes
My identity will never change
Why punish me in cruel ways
Verse 3:
I looked up at the judge
WHo let them go without a nudge
They will all regret this day yeah
Chorus 3:
Now we got what needed and were living like stars
Chasing our dreams no matter who we are
Can be ourself without being pushed behind bars
My identity will never change
I made new friends and being who i am
No more punishments from the white men
No more Klu Klux Klan sending threats in our eyes
My identity is here to stay
We made it through the frozen rain
Tears of joy stream down my face
I think i've found a better way
To keep being who i am
My identity will never change
