Father's Day
“Father’s Day 2011”
Every daughter has an obligation to be “Daddy’s Little Girl”,
So I thank you for allowing me to live up to those words.
You’ve taught me so much in these 16 years of how to live and laugh and love,
And how to stand upon my own to feet when push comes to shove.
I don’t know why there only is one day, set aside each year
For me to tell you how much you mean to me, and to really make it clear.
As tradition goes, I’ll say to you,
Happy Father’s Day like I always do,
My love for you grows with each passing day,
But on this Sunday in June I’d like to just take this moment and say,
Thank you for my life, thank you for your love,
Thank you for all the things that you’ve given up,
Thank you for working hard to support this family,
And finally, thank you for always being my daddy.
I remember the times that we’d drive alone,
Listening to “The Boss”
And singing every note with tone deaf ears, when I look back now; we rocked
You behind the wheel, and me sitting right there beside,
I always dreaded the end of each and every ride.
Now it’s my turn to put that pedal to my feet,
And I hope to see you next to me in the passenger’s seat.
And you’ll say things like, “Put on your signal, girl step on your brakes”,
And, “Always check your rearview before you go switching lanes”,
I’ll listen to your words, relax and then try again,
But one thing’s for sure, you’ll never have to doubt my feelings.
I know things get tough sometimes, life makes you want to quit
But please, no matter what you do, don’t ever forget…
Daddy I love you, you’ve helped make me who I am
And I’m forever grateful for the father that I have.
When I look back on these days, I’ll let the memories unfurl,
And don’t worry dad, I will always be your little girl
