Veni, Vidi, Vici

A hot summer night and the two of us

A worn-out blanket, the stars peek out

We talk for hours, nothing to discuss

I lean towards you and there’s nothing to doubt

 Words stop and silence surrounds

You close your eyes, we come so close

Our lips touch on that soft grassy ground

Then you pull away, cheek brushing nose

You look at me and deep down I know

I brush your cheek, but it's far too late

Make this all last, make time go slow

I’d be your king but it's one move to ‘mate

We shed no tears but we say goodbye

Stars cross the heavens, but we fall to earth

You say don't worry, you say that you’re fine

I wish I knew then, how much it would hurt

The heat slowly fades-summer to chill

We were in love but met too soon

I replay that night and I miss you still

But my nights without you: a sky with New Moon

There’s no going back, nothing could be done

Our stars weren’t aligned, the time was all wrong

I hope you find joy, hope you had fun

Now that it finished, all we’ve got is this song

The author's comments:

This is a rhymed verse about a relationship that started too soon. The people were right, but the timing was wrong. These lyrics explain how people were meant to be together, but fate forced them apart. The brief love that they shared was intense and powerful, but it faded just as fast.
