"Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion; it is not the expression of personality, but an escape from personality. But, of course, only those who have personality and emotions know what it means to want to escape from these things." -T.S. Eliot

I watch you in my mind

Reaching out across the spirit line

And I lay down on the floor

Searching for the answer

And I wonder if you’re somewhere up there

Wishing you were still here

Cause I wish you were still here

And the sun still shines even though you’re not here

And the flowers still bloom; They have nothing to fear

But I, I have everything to fear

Cause your mouth doesn’t laugh

And your eyes they don’t shine

And I hear you crying

But I can’t be there this time

Can’t write you a line

So here’s a li-------ne

I mi—ss you

I see you in my mind

Crying out the daily grind

You said nobody’s listening and nobody hears

So I sit you down and I wipe off your tears

I wipe off your tears.

Cause the sun still shines even though you’re not here

And the flowers still bloom; They have nothing to fear

But I, I have everything to fear

Cause your mouth doesn’t laugh

And your eyes they don’t shine

And I hear you crying

But I can’t be there this time

Can’t write you a line

So here’s a li-------ne

I miss you

And you said I showed you what compassion feels like,

But you ran away in the middle of the night,

And no I can’t chase you, can’t up this fight

No, no, no, no

So here’s to your life

Here’s to your friends

Here’s to the tree that you helped begin

Here’s to your life

Here’s to your light

Here’s to your heart cause it never dies

Cause the sun still shines even though you’re not here

And the flowers still bloom; They have nothing to fear

But I, I have everything to fear

Cause your mouth doesn’t laugh

And your eyes they don’t shine

And I hear you crying

But I can’t be there this time

Can’t write you a line

So here’s a li-------ne

I miss you

Sydney, I miss you

The author's comments:

I lost a friend to suicide in September. It's been really hard, but I've found that music has helped me in dealing with it a lot. This is a song I wrote for her. I hope that it can touch someone, maybe help them through a loss or feel less alone.

This is the most beautiful song I have seen in my years on here. I am so sorry you had to go through that, I hope you can heal in time and know that your friend is watching over you. This brought tears to my eyes, it's just so raw and well-written. Keep up the good work!
