I wake up to the sound of quiet.
Outside the children are having a riot.
They run all around,
There’s snow on the ground,
The flakes are now part of the kids’ diet.

The flecks fall soft on the ground.
A winter wonderland I’ve found.
Inside it is warm,
Outside there’s a storm,
But then I failed to hear the sound.

A hard-packed snowball strikes me.
Nothing but white I see.
My face feels cold,
I raise my voice to scold-
But instead my anger unfolds.

I pick up a mound of white.
I’m ready for a snowball fight.
The assailants are near,
Their playful yells I hear,
My ammunition takes flight.

Splat! The slush-ball goes.
They’re covered from their heads to their toes.
I hear a loud scream,
A cold nightmarish dream,
And then that icy wind blows.

It takes a while but I realize-
I’d much rather be inside.
With a farewell grin,
“O what fun it’s been”
I say bye to those I’ve allied.

A warm cup of cocoa I spot.
A stew sits boiling in a pot.
I sit down and nourish,
My tired body must flourish,
I fall asleep at 8 on the dot.
