A Few Haikus (about potatoes)
Let my mind grow like
A humble potato in
The dirt beneath us
French fries, chips, baked or
Mashed--so many good ways to
Eat a potato
They say that a man
Can survive eating only
Potatoes and milk
The Irish thrived on
This hardy root veg’table
Or was it “hearty”?

A haiku (plural "haiku" or "haikus") is a style of poem originating in Japan. The requirements are three lines: a 7-syllable line sandwiched between two 5-syllable lines. Coming up with the right number of syllables is perfectly occupying. Once you starting writing a haiku, it's hard not to write a few more. These lighthearted poems about potatoes are good for brightening the mood, or if you just want something a little different.
