the sound of lightning

rain is deafening
the thunder even more so;
lightning's not silent
contrary to what
mankind would have you believe
(otherworldly beasts)
just before it strikes
the critters anticipate
and the world goes still
except for the rain
(rain stops for no man, you know)
and the lightning comes
shattering sight, but
more so eardrums, unchallenged
by previous sound
the thunder crashes;
a tsunami reaching an
abandoned cliffside
trying to regain
some shred of dignity (but
lightning will prevail)
