White hot ball of flames
  Bathing the landscape below
  With a warmth unknown.

  Burning with passion,
  Unbridled power held just
  Beneath the surface.

  Living in its light
  Shielded from pernicious frights,
  Taught us to fear night.

  Protected by bright
Rays cast down by its cheerful gaze
  Helps us through the maze.

  Luminate the path
Help us to escape the wrath
  Of a darkened life.

The author's comments:

We all feel at times that the world is shrouded in darkness, and that human beings are inherently evil. But just remember the next time that you are wrestling in the grasp of pessimism that you grew up in the light, and that is what protects you.
