Feel the sky
Only a small seed,
planted deep within the heart
of new September.
She’s uncertain of the month.
Fearful of the day.
Ambivalent of the year.
Unsure if she’ll be
a flower in a garden
Or the dirt beneath.
She’s not yet allowed to see.
Time will give her sight
through the discomfort that comes
from being buried
in the surface of the soil.
Waiting for a light,
suffocating by the dark.
Suddenly Earth shakes
as hard rain seeps through the cracks.
It pierces her heart
all while the sun breaks her bones.
Discomfort and pain
Consumed what once was the seed.
And in her place stood
a glowing sprout of bright green.
Pain was not over.
The growing had just begun.
Within those moments
the seed had truly become
Something beautiful,
but something with potential.
She knew that her peace
Would be a fleeting moment.
Once again, Earth broke.
this time, she embraced the pain.
She trusted the growth.
Still unsure of what will come.
She knew with her heart,
she would one day feel the sky
And breath in the light,
while rising above the clouds.
