the reflection
my reflection was unidentifiable,
it betrayed no truths in its glassy planes
what I saw wasn’t
broken
I pushed myself inside it to look
gouged out it’s eyes
broke its jaw
twisted its neck
caressed its heart in my hand
before I crushed it in my fist and
found nothing in the darkness left behind
It was a shell looking back at me
gaping wide and emotionless
I threw myself into it
Into me
Into the glass
Into the image
until my shoulder bled
until the mirror cracked
until the glass caved
until it
broke
broke
broke
until I recognized myself its reflection
