“You must be the change you want to see in the world. As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world – that is the myth of the atomic age – as in being able to remake ourselves.”
-Mahatma Gadhi

He wakes up at noon without a care

Rushes out the door without a sound

Doesn’t bother to look around

She rises before the sun

And tidies up till he comes

She cleans up his leftovers

And then sits to eat

Alone she begins the day

He speeds off to work with his buddies in the car

To a company with the same breed as him

Together they laugh and neglect all others

Just to come home and say they’ve had a long day

Meanwhile, she has cleaned, scrubbed, and scoured

Organized, tidied, and sorted

In and out

The entire house

Yet each day when he comes home

She sits by his side and tends to every wound

Makes him food and lets him rest

Yet she never thinks to protest

She sings for better days

For children, for respect, and for equal pay

While he calls out for dinner, for sports, and to get his own way.

This piece tries to protest the stereotypes of women being housewives and how patriarchy is an idea that simply should not be an applicable or a viable ideology in the society we live in today.
