First, Second, Last
i have always been the older one;
the firstborn
first love
first while
first you
first lived
first in my
first shadow.
i was the sun, you
were the moon;
we raced across the galaxy in
star-lit paths,
yet you were always a step,
a day
behind.
in your mind, i was everything;
the cherry on top,
a morning breeze, &
a kiss goodbye —
all the things you could never be.
and for a few, brief seconds
i thought i was &
i wanted everything for myself.
i didn't look back,
i continued on.
and then you fell.
from the depths of the sky,
you were ripped out, cast down.
a shooting star,
a streaking light,
a tear drop of the universe herself.
it was too late to say,
i'm sorry.
