If you only knew how little I know about the things that really matter.

The Dog’s tail thumps twice as we enter the room
always twice, never once, never five times
and She never raises her head
eyes twitch beneath closed lids, not willing to give the
effort anymore
In the dark, seen through the aching, cliched, melancholy tree branches
is a light
shining through a window
a window containing a table
a solitary person, not a shadow, at the table
and sadness feels

In the dark the snow comes
It never comes in the daytime
The feeling
That everything is everything and up is up
And up and up and away
Go the trivial daytime drugs
Distractions from the real
the dark snow
The snow in the dark, makes a different pattern
Not reflective, shiny, blinding in the day
But reflects the dark, defies nature and gravity or some of those laws
and bounces back, shines in, a darkness deeper than those abiding in the farthest corners of the land
the snow reflects through the window, falling or still,
Music or not, but usually music,
It is not untouched, it is not transcendent, it is not beautiful, or peace
there are ridges, to the thoughts, and the freeze
soft velvety biting cold
Though the air is warm it might seem
So the dark in the snow, penetrates
Penetrates the glass bricks walls skin glass
used to keep them away
It is so easy
until, spiraling
We fall into the abyss
