What Love Does
I used to think
that love
built you up
and made you
more
than you were
before,
because that's
what everyone
told me it did.
But now I know
that that
is wrong.
Love makes you
naked.
It strips away
everything
you're not.
Love must make you
raw
and
alone
before
it makes you
whole
and even then,
it doesn't always work.
The other must love what they see
in you.
And sometimes...
they don't.
Love doesn't build you up.
They do.
