To Him
I waved to Him,
Him who decides all fates,
The Death of some, the Life of many,
He said “The clock has struck,
The time for you to pass,”
He said, but alas,
Was I ready?
With a hand so steady,
I waved to Him.
I asked Him,
Who ever is ready
To meet their end
In a world where we build a circle of life
Around us,
Like a fire around a river,
The trees burning and wishing to grow just a little more,
While the river contemplates its life forever,
The uncertainty of both,
As both loathe,
The fate that He gave them,
Was I ready?
I asked Him.
I cried to Him,
As I met my end,
I thought about the dreams I could never send
With little hope I can now ascend
In heaven, in heaven,
And now to meet my end?
I cried to Him.
I laughed at Him,
Why me? Why now?
How did you decide my fate?
Is there any change you can allow?
Too late to frustrate,
Now to meet my end, I wait,
I laughed at him.

I was inspired to write this piece because of the complex emotions that surround death: uncertainty, anger, frusration, and confusion. We often think of how death of a loved one affects oneself, but I thought it would be interesting to instead take the perspective of the loved one.
