Wishes
When we were young
We wished
To grow up.
When we were growing up
We wished
We had never started.
When we have grown up
We look back and say,
"What foolish wishes."
And go to wish
The foolish wishes
That make the world work.
And when we have grown
To where we will grow no more
We look back smiling and say,
"What wonderfully foolish wishes we made."
And go to wish
For anything;
To wish
For the most foolish things
That may now pass unquestioned
We wish
For the most wonderfully foolish things
Again
