My mother's daughter
I am my mother's daughter
not by the curve of my flesh
or the slant of my eye
I am hers through and through
in the words I spit out unto others
twisting the knife and yanking it up,
from navel to chin
I am hers in the pit of my stomach
where oftentimes and too often
i feel nothing at all
but a faint bit of pleasure when i watch the boys cry
I am my mother's daughter
in a kiss that means nothing
behind someone's back
in the hurt and the hatred
and the bitterness too
Some people say I'm just like her
...
If they only knew.
