Shattered Glass
Shattered Glass
I caught sight of a man.
He was far away.
He stood still--
My feet started to move fluently.
I saw the man proceed towards me.
It seemed as if he copied me.
Foot after foot we got closer.
The sounds of footsteps in sync
I walked up to the man.
How could I be this blind?
Suddenly anger filled me
I punched the barrier between us with force.
Cracks spread like a spider web.
Where I punched was the man’s face
No longer was he identical to me
I felt relieved that I was finally myself.
That I could be free and different.
Then I walked away from the shattered remnants of the past.
And he didn’t follow.

I was inspired by a few things. At school I saw lots of people "twinning" and it made me think of being yourself. Why would you want to be alike to someone? That's so boring. My poem was about being yourself and the main character does just that. He realizes that it's ok to be different. Nobody should be ashamed of that.
