Where I'm From
I am from the Ojibwe tribe.
From smoothly spoken voices
and patient souls,
homegrown and home-based.
I am from burning candles,
lavender for spring and pumpkin for fall.
I am from Vic and Margo.
Also from Adam and Eve.
I am from bare brown and garden green,
creating baltic blue eyes.
I am from pretty pink tulips
my Dad and I planted.
I am from underdogs on the swing set.
From smiles like the glowing sunshine,
and giggles as loud as the sea.
I am from lemon green tea,
sizzling steam and screeching in the morning.
I am from the time Connor got stung by 30 bees
in the trees at Fort Wilderness.
I am from days at Pine Lake.
From shimmering blue water
and sun glistening on my cheeks.
I am from four children:
Gabriella, Natalie, Connor, and Mia.
From smoothly spoken voices
and patient souls,
I am from Vic and Margo.
Also from Adam and Eve.
