Where I'm From
I am from the U.P.
with the beaches that hug Lake Superior
and squeaky sand and crystal clear water.
From the hockey rink
where I played my games
and watched my brother play in envy.
I am from the kitchen
with the satisfying smell of freshly baked goods
and my specialty, apple pie.
From the football field
where I cheered in front of thousands of people
and smiled my biggest smile when I flew.
I am from the hours of tumbling lessons
with back tucks and co-ed stunting
and the thrill when I got a new tumbling pass.
From the morning walks
With my huskies wagging their fluffy tails
and prancing on the sidewalk.
I am from the days on the lake
where the cooler lid flew back
and smacked my brother’s face.
From the accomplishments and disappointments
with laughter, sometimes tears
and “everything happens for a reason.”
