I Fell Asleep
I fell asleep that night
the far beyond coming towards me
and the sound of once voice
the look of one face
deeply haunting me
like the old stones of a ruined palace
falling away
and the silent memories of distant stars
shining faintly
and my heart sinking low
I found you again,
lost memories of you
echoing within the hollow chambers of my heart.
I fell asleep that night
the wind rustling up the bed sheets,
reflecting your image
I remembered your silver hair,
the far beyond coming towards me,
I remembered—
and the silence stirred up the darkness
and the shadow of your shape was cast
deeply haunting me
when your love stopped reaching out
when your branches stopped reaching out
when your branches stopped growing
and Autumn had settled you.
Still, I have not forgotten—
still
I haven’t given up
Not today
Not tomorrow
Not ever.
I fell asleep that night
crying
the only thoughts in my head
being of you.
