Reminders
When I notice
those little wings
flutter
and the
vibrant colors protrude
the air as
long beaks suck
sugary red nectar
from our
feeder
I remember.
When I hear a
short
aggressive inward
gasp and a
dragged out
exhale while
watching a movie or
during a
different occurrence
I have instant flashbacks.
When I hear the
simple word
cancer
my mind replays the
series of events
like an aged film
inside my head
triggering my
emotions to ignite
and erupt
leaving me to
drown in the rapid
stream of the
past.
