Transforming
Visit
after
visit
she changes.
In the hospital
she had her
normal complexion:
golden highlighted hair
pink painted nails
lips spread into a
contagious smile.
Moved to a reclining
chair in her cozy home
she looked
drained
as if someone
poked a hole into her
appearance
letting her color
seep until
nothing but a
bleached version
of my grandma
was left
yet she was still a
fighter.
Suddenly
we are
sitting at her bedside
watching her gasp
for breath as her
lungs fill with
liquid
tears creating
a pool on the floor
as we realize
she is dying
as if
the disease didn’t already
steal everything had
left.
