Foundations
My Grandfather
carpenter by trade
swinging hammers and pounding nails
building foundations for a future.
Hoping one will maybe last
through storms of life and trials to come
growing stronger from the past.
His Story
just a tale to me.
Passed from progeny to theirs.
Maybe I can continue his lead
building off that Firm Foundation
while still remembering
that I - am Me.

This poem is to EVERYONE. People will interpret it differently, and that's perfect!
As I was writing this, I was thinking about my grandfather, who died before I ever knew him. He was a carpenter, and he built foundations for houses and buildings as a part of that job. As a play on words, he also built the foundations for a successful life for my father, who is doing the same for me.
I want to continue to grow that foundation, but still remember that I will always be myself. I can never be anyone else, so I should make this life the best it can be for me.
