Pretend Poet
Tell me I’m superior, just once
Even if you don’t believe it.
You think your laughter will make me okay,
Will make you okay.
Not today.
Tell me I’m okay.
Tell me I’m not dying here,
More than just a starving artist,
More than just a wrong decision,
More than the slicing words
On a chilling summer day
In an undercrowded room
Where time stands still.
Tell me I’m more
Than just a crazy cross for you to bear,
A sad soul for you to save.
Let me be something more.
To you,
A pretend poet
Is all I’ll ever be.
