Longing for her Homeland -- The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
A Queen observes the land.
Miles of sun baked stone
and sand swirl in a dry breeze.
She thinks of her homeland,
towering mountains and falling valleys.
Her despair deepens.
The King, a loving husband,
senses his bride’s sorrow.
He toils in the searing desert sun,
constructing something to convey his love.
The King, ever mindful his wife
longs for one more look at her homeland.
When the laboring is complete,
the King escorts his Queen…
they ascend flights of stone steps.
She faces a grand garden.
All around, she finds plantlife,
lush and ornate.
The greenery adorns every inch
as if draping from the palace walls.
Walkways are lined with an abundance of trees,
blossoming flowers, and growing shrubs.
It’s as if she’s standing in her homeland…
her despair almost forgotten.
