If they don’t try,
Let them go.
People from the past,
Need to stay there.
They left you heartbroken.
They beg and plead,
To let them back in.
No.
Breaking down walls,
To turn around,
Leaving.
Walls come up,
Only stronger,
More difficult,
To break down.
New people,
Kept at a distance,
Not allowed to get close.
Until it’s known,
They can be trusted.
Known they’re not leaving.
Known they’re never,
Going to hurt you ever.

The inspiration for this poem came from things that I know to be true. It was a simple and easy poem to write since it was something I knew, not something that I had to make up.
