What Part of Me
You cannot hide your thoughts from me
Your thoughts float like ghosts in their transparent way
But you’ve only seen part of me
The part I choose each day
The part I choose for you every morning
Like choosing what clothes to wear
But you’ve only seen a part of me
You’ve never seen the part
The part of me
That climbs the gray clouds and treks
On the rolling hills, the shadow hills
With words as my lone companions
The part of me
That sings to the wind as it chills
The climes of the desert; the sea’s white foam
Sing verses to bring me home
The part of me
That cries in the morning over rain
And then smiles over soft songs
That needs a kiss every night
No, you only know
One part of me
The part you speak of to your friends
The part you twist to your own jealousy
The part I never was
Nor ever will be
