Evil Voices
They walk in battalions and take no prisoners
they are always marching in your head,
they only talk to those who are listeners
when they speak you remember what they said.
The words that are uttered stay captive in your skull
held hostage by steel bars and locks without keys,
wardens that roam there and patrol
no windows in the cell, you can’t feel the breeze.
Some are loud and hard to neglect,
some will scream until their words sound hoarse.
Some are quiet but they still have effect,
they whisper and poison takes its course.
Evil voices that come from evil minds
that mock and ruin.
The only anchor is the other voice that reminds
you that you are still human.
It is the benevolent voice
the one you ignore.
Even though you have the choice,
you won’t listen even when it roars.

I wrote this about how sometimes you hear someone give a rude or not positive comment and you will listen to it other than the positive ones.
